The situation this solves
Someone emailed you a PDF and asked you to sign it and send it back. They did not use a signing service; they just attached a file. A landlord sends a lease, an employer sends an offer letter, a client sends a W-9 before they can pay you, a school sends a permission slip. The old answer was print, sign, scan, and email back. That took a printer, a scanner and about fifteen minutes.
The other common case is a form you fetched yourself: something downloaded from a government or insurer site that has to be signed before you upload it back to their portal.
Does a PDF signed this way hold up?
In the United States, electronic signatures are recognised under the ESIGN Act and UETA for ordinary agreements. The image on the page isn't what gives a signature weight. The evidence behind it is: proof that the signer meant to sign, and that the document hasn't changed since.
That is the difference between this and the tools that flatten a picture of your name onto a page. Every document signed here carries a tamper-evident audit trail (timestamps, IP address and a SHA-256 hash of the file) plus a Certificate of Completion, so a change made afterwards is detectable. There is more on security and legal validity, including a plain list of what we don't have yet.
Common questions
Do I need an account?
Not to sign your own document, and not to download it afterwards. An account is what keeps the file. Without one, we delete it about an hour after you download it, or within a day if you never do. An account also lets you send documents to other people.
Can I sign on my phone?
Yes. Signing happens in the browser, so a phone or tablet works as well as a laptop. There is no app.
What happens to my document?
It is reachable only through an unguessable link, and it is deleted about an hour after you download the signed file, or within a day if you never download it. If you create an account, the document moves to it and stays. Either way we do not sell your data or train AI models on your documents. See the privacy policy.
Is a typed signature as valid as a drawn one?
Under ESIGN and UETA neither form is inherently stronger. What matters is that you deliberately adopted the signature and that there is a record of it, which is what the audit trail provides.
Do you have templates I can start from?
Yes. The template library has service authorizations, work orders and waivers with the signature fields already in place.
