Free electrical work order template
Both need a free account, which includes five documents a month with no card. “Use this template” opens it in GSD with the signature fields already placed; the download gives you the blank document to use however you like.
When you would use it
Electrical contractors use a work order to pin down exactly what was agreed: which circuits, which fixtures, whose permit, and what it costs. Signed up front it prevents scope creep; signed on completion it is the record that the customer accepted the work before you invoiced it.
What the document says
This work order authorises the electrical contractor to perform the work described below at the customer’s premises. Work is performed to applicable electrical code, and any required permits are obtained before work begins.
What you fill in
- Scope of work e.g. Replace main panel, 200A
- Price e.g. $2,400.00
- Permit number e.g. EP-88231
Who signs
- Customer: signs first
- Provider: signs after the customer
Terms included
The contractor supplies labour and materials for the scope above at the stated price. Changes to scope are agreed in writing before additional work begins. The customer provides safe access to the work area and electrical panels. Payment is due on completion unless otherwise agreed. The customer signs first; the provider countersigns to confirm the order.
Common questions
Should the customer sign before or after the work?
Before, for the scope and the price. Many contractors then send the same document back for a completion signature, so one file carries both the authorization and the sign-off.
Does this cover permits and inspections?
The template has a line for who pulls the permit. Fill it in explicitly. An unstated assumption about permits is one of the most common sources of dispute on electrical jobs.
Sending it for signature
Open the template in GSD, fill in your details, and enter the other party's email. They get a link and sign in their browser on any device (your signer needs no account and nothing to install), and both of you get the completed PDF with an audit trail recording every view and signature, plus a SHA-256 hash so any later change is detectable. Electronic signatures collected this way are intended to be legally binding under the U.S. ESIGN Act and UETA. See security & legal validity for the detail, and pricing for what it costs (the first five documents each month are free).
This template is a starting point, not legal advice. Read the terms and edit them to match how you work, and check that electronic signing suits your document type and jurisdiction before you rely on it.
